cENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING
Air conditioning units have gone through a lot of changes in recent years. In 2006, the minimum efficiency of an AC unit was raised from 10 to 13 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio), SEER in the unit of measure that is used to determine efficiency for air conditioners.
The higher the SEER, the less electricity the unit uses. Also in 2010, manufacturers can no longer make AC units with R-22 refrigerant. R-22 (nicknamed “Freon”) was determined to be damaging to the Earth’s ozone layer and needed to be replaced. The replacement, R-410a Refrigerant has a significantly less environmental impact.
All of Emerald Heating and Cooling’s air conditioners include a new digital thermostat, new condenser pad, new water tight exterior electrical connections, properly sized circuit breakers, nitrogen purge and leak tested refrigerant lines.

High Efficiency and
2 Stage Air Conditioners
SEER of 16 or Higher
|
|
• Typically used in 2 story homes with uneven cooling in the house
• Uses less electricity to operate
• May qualify for rebates and tax incentives if matched with the proper High Efficiency Furnace
• 2 Stage units provide the most comfort by achieving the best dehumidification

|
Standard Air Conditioners
SEER of 13-15 |
|
• Most common units installed
• Typically the least expensive units to install
• Available in a variety of brands
• May qualify for rebates and tax incentives if matched with the proper High Efficiency Furnace
• Significantly more efficient than units >8 years old
