BOILERS
Boilers, similar to furnaces, are available in two major categories; Standard and High Efficiency.
Standard boilers are seen in most homes and typically consist of a cast iron heat exchanger and a circulating pump. High efficiency units require more complex installations and involve primary/secondary piping, and have multiple circulating pumps.
Steam systems require no pumps, but do require very precise piping to minimize steam hammering or “banging” in the walls.
All Emerald Heating water boilers include new air elimination systems, expansion tanks, water fills, digital thermostats, and removal of the old boiler. Steam boilers come standard with new automatic water fills, low water cutoffs, and new Hartford loop piping systems, as well as removal of the existing boiler.

High Efficiency and
Modulating
AFUE up to 96%
|
|
• Most common systems being installed
• Vent out of the house with PVC pipes
• Eligible for rebates and tax incentives
• Also called Condensing Boilers
• Usually cast aluminum or stainless steel.
• Fully modulating systems adjust fire at only the required BTUs based on outside temperature.

Standard Hot Water
AFUE up to 84% |
|
• Typically the least expensive units to install
• Vent into a steel or masonry chimney
• Typically used in income property or when up front cost is a major deciding factor
• Fixed BTU ratings
• Usually cast iron heat exchangers
